[Article Publication] A paper on the asteroid Ryuguu particle, in which Associate Professor Miyahara, JAMSTEC/Kochi Core Principal Researcher (Visiting Professor at Hiroshima University) Tomioka, and Professor Yabuta participated, was published in Meteoritics & Planetary Science.
This paper reports on a smooth surface (slickenside) with striations remaining on the surface of Ryugu particles (Published paper url). The authors conclude that this slickenside was formed during the impact of the asteroid Ryugu with a projectile. Based on the characteristics of the slickenside and the temperature and shock pressure conditions at the time of its formation, the authors speculate that the impact occurred when asteroid Ryugu was orbiting in the asteroid belt.
